Microsoft and Dropbox Partnership

Microsoft and Dropbox Partnership

Ed Evans

I’ve already posted a blog about file sharing and suitability reports, but now that Dropbox has partnered with Microsoft, it’s become even easier for organisations including financial advice companies to benefit from file sharing services.

Microsoft, with their 300 million users and Dropbox who currently store around 35 billion Office documents worldwide have formed an alliance to better serve their customers. This new partnership means that Microsoft Office users can edit their documents directly within their Dropbox mobile applications and access Dropbox documents from within their Microsoft Office applications. No other file sharing service other than Microsoft’s own One Drive currently offers this type of functionality.

So, how might this help a financial adviser or financial advice company using a suitability report writing solution like Genovo? The short answer is that it’ll give the people involved in the writing and checking of suitability reports much more flexibility as to how they are stored, managed and collaborated upon. This new technology partnership between Microsoft and Dropbox will specifically give users the ability to:

  • Save their suitability reports directly to Dropbox once they have been downloaded them to Word.
  • Edit reports from the Dropbox mobile app and automatically sync any changes across of their devices.
  • Create a report at the office or home and finish it on the go using the Dropbox mobile app.
  • Share the report with colleagues(e.g. your compliance team or paraplanner) from within Microsoft Word .

Next year Dropbox say that they’ll be extending these features to the web by adding integrations between the Dropbox website and Office Online. they’ll also be releasing a Dropbox app for Windows Phone and Windows tablet users in the coming months.

These capabilities will be available to all Microsoft Office users with a Dropbox account. Dropbox for business users will need an Office 365 subscription.
